Application Developer
Systems Management

* General Description

CIT Systems Management supports and facilitates the business activities of the CIT HelpDesk and other CIT groups via the development and maintenance of web-based applications.

Systems Management developers work alone or in small teams on complex and challenging projects with minimal direct supervision.

* Requirements

  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience developing web applications using PHP, Ruby or a similar language.
  • Knowledge of MySQL or a similar SQL database.
  • Familiarity with the command line on UNIX or UNIX-like OS a plus.
  • Experience configuring a web server, preferably Apache, a plus.
  • Experience with version control systems (CVS, Subversion) a plus.

* Details

  • Projects:

    Common types of projects include application development, maintenance, infrastructure migration, technical analysis and assessment. Developers will be expected to contribute estimates of work to project planning and will need to interact with customers to determine project requirements.

  • Training:

    Information Systems and the technology used to develop them are highly dynamic. Systems Management developers must be familiar with a wide range of tools and systems to work effectively.

    In order to develop and maintain this knowledge, developers may be required to attend occasional meetings and training activities. Developers are paid for meeting and training time.

  • Compensation and Advancement:

    The starting pay is $10.00/hr. Developers are expected to work a minimum of 8 hours per week while classes are in session. Schedules are flexible. Additional hours are available during university breaks and over the summer if desired.

    Some developers will have the opportunity to advance to leadership and managerial roles within the group. These positions carry additional responsibilities and offer increased pay rates.
